We also had a bad experience at Acacia. Other reviewers who say money is their primary motivation are correct. They push expensive and unnecessary tests on people who have sick companion animals and who they know they can sucker into paying for the tests that won't do anything but enrich the owner of Acacia, Marc Laudonio. Instead, when people have pets who are suffering from fatal diseases, they should just tell them that they are fatal and let the pet owners decide what to do instead of pushing what they know are tests that won't do any good for the pets, but only will do good for the bottom line of Acacia. I feel sorry for the "employee" vets who have to follow Dr. Laudonio's philosophy on this. They probably work on salary plus commission on selling tests. No wonder they come and go. You take your pet's life in your hands when you go to this place. And you better have lots of money for unnecessary tests to boot. There are many other vets in town that are better than this one.

Terrible care and customer service

Our beloved pet was extremely ill and Acacia was the only hospital open near our house the evening he needed medical attention. He was treated by a vet who was not personable and did not explain much. She put him on an NSAID, which is known to cause kidney damage, in the setting of dehydration, knowing he wasn't drinking and hardly peeing. She gave him 1 subcutaneous IV treatment then sent us home with multiple prescriptions and a monumental bill. He only worsened, and we took him back the next night and saw a different vet. She insisted we order $150 labs but could not explain why or how they would affect his treatment, until I asked her several times. She finally said he could die if we didn't. Well, the labs showed nothing we didn't already know and we left that night with another massive bill & several different diagnoses possibilities than what the 1st vet had given, for which she suggested various expensive tests. She also emphasized to NOT give the NSAID because it could hurt his kidneys and put him on a week of home IV fluid therapy. She did not feel all the supplements and prescriptions given by the 1st vet were necessary. I am in healthcare and feel that if the 1st vet had used common sense, she would have sent us home with IV fluids the 1st time and no NSAID and we might have avoided the 2nd visit, stress of watching our baby almost die, and expensive costs we incurred. We since have found a wonderful vet who takes the time to talk with us about reasonable diagnosis possibilities, not a slew of rare long-shots. His prices are more affordable as well. I can only share our experience and hope that no one else's beloved pet is as mis-treated as ours was. I will never take our pet back to Acacia and have no confidence in their practice's ability whatsoever. Additionally, when I requested a refund (worth < $50) for the supplies the 1st vet made us buy, I was ignored/disregarded by the company on 6 different occasions. Talk about a lack of customer service! They had taken > $550 from us in 24hrs and wouldn't even consider a small refund.

BAD COMMUNICATION, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

Not impressed with vet I saw and frankly, found out more about potential diseases afflicting my very small pet over the internet. He died two days later. I was very upset and called Acacia to cancel his followup appointment. The front desk at Acacia evidently didn't get the memo of of my pet's death as they called me FOUR DAYS LATER TO CONFIRM HIS FOLLOWUP APPOINTMENT. I had specifically called them to inform them on the day he DIED that I would not be bringing him in for the follow up appointment. If you can't trust the front desk.....what's going on in the back office? At that point I was not only upset, but pissed at their lack of communication. Now, the 1 star is not reflective on the "care" my pet received. The review is due to the incompetence of the front desk and the time it took for Acacia to respond to my original email. UPDATE I wrote an email to the office that day. Didn't get a response for THREE WEEKS. THREE WEEKS......GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. And that three week late email response was only after my best friend had an appointment there for her dog......Acacia actually thought that talking to my friend would suffice in their response to me. Acacia...I don't believe heresay and you should be ashamed of yourselves in how you responded to my "concerns". Please don't be duped by this company!
